I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in a small neighborhood known as "Dyker Bath Beach Park". Whenever I'm asked I usually just say "Bensonhurst" because there's less syllables, and time is money- or so I've been told.
I always loved to draw and color, and I spent most of my childhood drawing unicorns and castles while listening to David Bowie or "Sacred Space Music" by Constance Demby on casette tape. I was pretty obsessed with learning about the history of rock 'n' roll and pop culture, never missing a Channel 13 special and recording every televised show I knew about.
At age 14 I was accepted into LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts. My favorite class in high school was Mixed Media. I really enjoyed pasting found objects onto my art and making portraits more meaningful in this manner.
After high school I took a year off and then attended the School of Visual Arts, majoring in animation.
I've held a number of interesting jobs in my life and I do pride myself on having learned great lessons in unexpected scenarios. You never really know what you can learn from waitressing or from managing a comic shop until you actually try it.
I grew up in a haunted house and I've always been the girl who cleans up other peoples' esoteric messes. I'm very careful not to create my own.
Post-college I owned my own clothing lines, Birdbrain and Love Nico. Both had an extremely successful run and I'm happy to have had the experience (whether I like the fashion industry or not). I've also done a decent amount of stylist work for some indie bands around Brooklyn, which I really like to do. Musicians are fun to dress up.
I have recently been working in animation again, and had the privilege of being involved in the making of the "Astonishing X-Men" Motion Comics, under the direction of Neal Adams and Continuity Studios.
I enjoy animating and After Effects work for music videos. At the moment I find it a preferable way to pay the bills, but then I do love to bounce around the skillsets; it keeps life interesting.
I LOVE making one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories: tee shirts, sweatshirts, wrist cuffs, handbags, cloaks, and other odds and ends. I also love embellishing and distressing already-made items, such as jackets, pants, or three-piece suits.
I'm currently working on a digital painting series, a collection of portraits of modern-day magicians. Each portrait will be printed as oil on canvas at approximately 4'x6' and further details will be added to each before the final step of framing.
